That's how those 'super deletion' programs work, rather than just marking the file as deleted, they will fill in space used by the file with 0's (multiple times) to ensure its unrecoverable (as it's very slightly possible a forensic team could still recover traces of previously overwritten data, those software typically write over it multiple times.think of tape). However, as you add more files to the hard drive, it sometimes decides to reuse previously used space - in which case the data is pretty much permanently deleted. When files are deleted on your hard drive, the computer (typically) does nothing except mark that space as unused in the filesystem (for speed), in which case, anything you have deleted is fully recoverable (you can easily do it yourself with some software, but don't count on it to work.sometimes parts of files end up being unrecoverable). Anything saved on your HD (even after its been 'deleted' from your HD) leaves a footprint on your computer - if worst comes to worst - your HD could be forensically analyzed, and that information recovered (original dates/times/etc).That's not completely correct I agree with the comment about it being copyrighted once recorded on to your HD.

The "poor mans copyright" may not be full proof, but it sure as hell has a better stance in court than having no backup. Obviously - nothing beats hiring a copyright lawyer that can legally advise you on the proper way of copyrighting a song - the problem is, many of us starving musicians cant pay those ridiculous lawyer/copyright fees. If you ever have to take someone to court, bring your package with you, let the judge open it - 'nuff said.
Put the package in a safe place (obviously, do not open it). Print out any lyrics/music notation for the song - include a cd with the original recording, all recorded samples, all DAW project files, etc - Put all of this in a Certified Envelope, and mail it to yourself.
The other thing I would try is the "Poor Mans Copyright". Anything saved on your HD (even after its been 'deleted' from your HD) leaves a footprint on your computer - if worst comes to worst - your HD could be forensically analyzed, and that information recovered (original dates/times/etc).
